Eric Rosen, founding member and co-artistic director of Chicago's About Face Theatre Collective, has adapted and directed Jim Grimsley's novel Dream Boy running at the Eclipse Theatre from July 5 through Aug. 18.
Dream Boy is a surrealistic story of two young homosexual lovers in North Carolina who are violently assaulted by their families for their union, although the redemptive power of love creates a unique and happy ending.
Dream Boy is Grimsley's second novel, and has been nominated for a Lambda Literary Award for fiction. Also a playwright, Grimsley was the playwright in residence this past season at Atlanta's 7 Stages, where he premiered his compilation of two one-acts, The Decline and Fall of the Rest. His play Mr. Universe received critical acclaim for its New York production in the late 80's.
About Face Theatre Collective is a new theatre company devoted to the growth of the individual artist as a powerful vehicle for change, as well as the healing and support of gay, lesbian and bi-sexual communities.
Dream Boy previews July 5 and opens at the Eclipse on N. Leavitt on July 7, running Thu-Sat 8pm, and Sun 7 PM. Tickets are $12 and are availble by calling (312) 409-4863.
