To inaugurate the Joyce Theatre's 1997 Spring Dance Season, the Off-Broadway playhouse will hold its spring gala tonight, May 6, as a benefit for Friends In Deed, which provides "emotional, spiritual and psychological support for those affected with life-threatening illnesses." Performing at the benefit will be choreographer and dance soloist Margie Gillis, pop songstress Carly Simon, Tony-nominated dancer Robert La Fosse, and actress Claire Bloom, who will recite the James Joyce selection, "Molly Bloom" (from "Ulysses").
