Cleveland Playhouse artistic director Peter Hackett traveled to Hungary on March 17 in preparation to stage Twelve Angry Men at the Hungarian Theatre in Miskolc on April 17.
Hackett directed Twelve Angry Men at CPH in 1998, and this production is the latest contribution in a two-year-old International Theatre Exchange program between the two companies.
Dramaturg Peter Fabri translated the play, which Hackett will direct through a translator.
Long established, the Hungarian National Theatre performed Peter Muller’s Gloomy Sunday for Ohio audiences at the CPH in 1998. Following that, Hackett successfully mounted Steve Martin’s Picasso at the Lapin Agile in both Miskolc and Budapest. This was followed by Hungarian National artistic director Hegyi Arpad Jutocsa’s staging of Franz Molnar’s The Guardsman at CHP in the fall of 2000.
