News Color Purple Star to Celebrate New CD at Joe's Pub Elisabeth Withers-Mendes, who received a Tony nomination for her performance as Shug Avery in The Color Purple, will go it solo at Joe's Pub in December.

On Dec. 4 the actress will perform at the intimate venue located within the Public Theater. Withers-Mendes, who also received an Outer Critics Circle nomination for her Purple work, will celebrate her forthcoming debut solo recording, "It Can Happen to Anyone," which will be released on the Blue Note Records label. Show time is 7 PM.

Color Purple marks the Broadway debut for Withers-Mendes, who has recorded and performed with such artists as Luther Vandross, Cher, Celine Dion and Henry Krieger. She also penned the song "Emotions," a number-one hit on the Billboard Charts.
