Performances of Tony winner Dennis Kelly's (Matilda The Musical) play will begin Nov. 5 at New York City Center – Stage II. Taking Care of Baby will officially open Nov. 19.
As previously reported, the cast features Reed Birney (Blasted, Our Leading Lady), Kristen Bush (Kin, The Common Pursuit), Tony nominee Amelia Campbell (A Streetcar Named Desire, Our Country's Good) and Margaret Colin (The Columnist, "Gossip Girl").
Joining the quartet are Francois Battiste (Magic/Bird), Michael Crane (Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson), Ethan Phillips (Golden Age) and Zach Shaffer ("Smash"). Erica Schmidt will direct.
Here's how MTC bills the work: "An unspeakable tragedy. A shattered family. An accusation of murder. Taking Care of Baby is a provocative new drama that boldly explores the elusive nature of truth and the depths we'll go to expose it."
The creative team includes Laura Jellinek (scenic design), Jessica Pabst (costume design), David Weiner (lighting design) and Fitz Patton (sound design). Kelly's work also includes Debris, Osama the Hero, After the End, Love and Money, DNA, Orphans and The Gods Weep. Kelly wrote and co-produced "Utopia" and co-wrote the award-winning comedy series "Pulling."
