News Composer Scott Alan's Master Class Students Will Strut Their Stuff at the Duplex in December; Participants Announced Students from Scott Alan's year-long master classes will perform next month in two separate evenings at the Duplex Cabaret Theatre.

You Are Here, a cabaret exploring "dead ends, detours, and taking the next step," will be presented Dec. 6 at 7 PM. The students featured include Alanna Chuyan, Kiara Duran, Claire Hannum, Jonathan Julian, Nanci D. Miles, Rachele Schank and Kelly E. Waters; Danny Taylor will serve as musical director.

Both Sides Now, a cabaret exploring "the dichotomy between the professional and personal lives of five extraordinary individuals," will be presented Dec. 13 at 9:30 PM. Students include Jonathan Forsythe, Jessica George, Rachel Handler, Kara Moutler and Avery Ragsdale. Recording artist Katie Thompson will also be featured, and Matthew Webb will serve as musical director.

Scott Alan started his year-long, free master class program as a way to give back to the theatre community. The students were selected by Alan from over 700 essays posing the question, "What does theatre mean to you?"

In a statement Alan said, "The master class program encouraged my students to determine their own success and not wait for some casting director to determine if they were worthwhile....A year later and my students have put together two amazing cabarets. I am so proud of them and can't wait for the audience to be introduced to each of these passionate artists. ... It's been a real joy to watch their growth over this past year."

Alan's new musical Home is aiming for Broadway in 2012. The Duplex Cabaret Theatre is located at 61 Christopher Street. There is a $10 cover charge and a two-drink minimum. Reservations are encouraged by calling (212) 255-5438 or by visiting www.theduplex.com.
