New Dramatists will pay tribute to Angela Lansbury at its May 16 spring luncheon, when the non-profit group will present the actress with the 2000 Lifetime Achievement Award. The event will take place at the Marriott Marquis in Manhattan's Times Square. According to the Keith Sherman & Associates press office, among the notables taking part in the ceremony are Kathie Lee Gifford (Putting It Together), Bernadette Peters (Annie Get Your Gun), Stephen Sondheim (who penned Sweeney Todd), Eartha Kitt (The Wild Party), retired news anchor Walter Cronkite, Susan Lucci (Annie Get Your Gun), Hal Prince (director of Sweeney Todd), Beatrice Arthur (Fiddler On The Roof), Dionne Warwick, Lauren Bacall (Waiting in the Wings), Olympia Dukakis (Rose), Lily Tomlin (The Search For Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe), Terrence McNally (author of Master Class), Marin Mazzie (Kiss Me, Kate), Brian Stokes Mitchell (Kiss Me, Kate) and Davis Gaines (Phantom of the Opera).
Lansbury has received four Tonys, all for musical roles, including Mame, Dear World, Gypsy and Sweeney Todd.
