Actor, playwright and columnist David Drake begins performances Dec. 2 at the Barrington Stage Company in David Sedaris' The Santaland Diaries.

The production, directed by Andrew Volkoff, will play Dec. 2-5 and Dec. 9-12 at BSC's Studio Space in Sheffield, MA. It will then be presented at the Berkshire Museum in Pittsfield Dec. 17-19.

An actor, writer and director, David Drake has appeared in That Woman: Rebecca West Remembers, Pageant, End of the World Party, A Language of Their Own, The Boys in the Band and Vampire Lesbians of Sodom. His self-written one-man shows include Son of Drakula and The Night Larry Kramer Kissed Me (Obie Award). Drake also writes a monthly cabaret column, "The Cabaret Beat," for Playbill Magazine.

Director Joe (Wicked) Mantello adapted Santaland Diaries from a short story by comedic novelist David Sedaris. Diaries is based on the time Sedaris spent working as an elf during the holiday season at Macy's.

Sedaris made his National Public Radio debut in 1992 reading excerpts from "Santaland Diaries." He and his sister Amy comprise a two-person theatre company, The Talent Family. Together, they are responsible for such witty, often-hilarious productions as Stitches, One Woman Show, Stump the Host, Stitches, Incident at Cobbler's Knob and The Book of Liz. Some of Sedaris' best-selling collections include"Naked," "Me Talk Pretty One Day" and "Barrel Fever."
