Classic Arts News David Robertson Replaces Claudio Abbado for Carnegie Hall's Season Openers David Robertson, a regular presence on the Carnegie Hall stage, will conduct the Lucerne Festival Orchestra in the opening concerts of the venue's 2007-08 season on October 3 and 4. He replaces Claudio Abbado, who withdrew from all three of his appearances with the ensemble next month on his doctors' orders.
The Opening Night Gala on October 3 is an all-Beethoven program featuring the Piano Concerto No. 4, with Murray Perahia as soloist, and the Symphony No. 9. The October 4 concert is a repeat performance of the Ninth Symphony.

Carnegie Hall announced last week that Pierre Boulez will fill in for Abbado in the LFO's October 6 performance of Mahler's Symphony No. 3.

The Lucerne Festival Orchestra, which Abbado founded in 2003, makes its North American debut with its Carnegie residency, which runs October 3-7. The five-day event includes the three full-orchestra programs, three chamber concerts and a performance as the Mahler Chamber Orchestra (whose players form the nucleus of the LFO) with Pierre-Laurent Aimard as conductor/piano soloist.
