News Delany, Santiago-Hudson and Bauer Join Cast of New Shanley Play, Now Called Defiance The latest work by John Patrick Shanley now has a one-word title, just like his recent Pulitzer Prize winner Doubt.

Chain of Command, which will be given a July 29-31 workshop at the Powerhouse Theatre on the grounds of Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York, as part of the 2005 summer season of New York Stage and Film, has been renamed Defiance. Joining the previously announced star Chris Cooper in the cast are Dana Delany, Ruben Santiago-Hudson, Jeremy Strong, Trevor Long and Chris Bauer.

The new drama is about "two officers who clash over an explosive incident that could end one of their careers." Cooper will star as Lt. Colonel Littlefield; Santiago-Hudson is Captain King; Delany plays Margaret Littlefield; Strong is PFC Evan Davis; Chris Bauer portrays Chaplain White; and Trevor Long fills the role of Gunney.

Delany is well known as one of the cast member's of television's "China Beach. On stage, she has appeared Off-Broadway in Dinner With Friends. Santiago-Hudson won a Tony for Seven Guitars and recently appeared in Gem of the Ocean. He has performed his own one-man show Lackawanna Blue at theatres across the U.S. Bauer recently played Mitch in the Broadway revival of A Streetcar Named Desire.

Character actor Cooper won his Oscar in 2003 for "Adaptation." His other film credits include "Silver City," "American Beauty," "Lone Star," "Matewan," "The Horse Whisperer," "The Bourne Identity," "The Bourne Supremacy" and "City of Hope."

Shanley, who has directed his own work on occasion, will stage the piece. Doug Hughes directed the Off-Broadway and Broadway productions of Doubt.
