Classic Arts News   Doctors Hopeful About Giuseppe di Stefano's Recovery
Doctors in a Mombasa, Kenya, hospital are hopeful about the prognosis of retired Italian tenor Giuseppe di Stefano, the Associated Press reports.

Di Stefano was attacked last week by unidentified assailants who were trying to rob him and his wife at their villa in Diani, 270 miles from Nairobi.

The singer suffered a blow to the head, and is still unconscious after two operations performed since the attack. Doctors are taking him off sedatives and plan a brain scan later this week to determine his condition.

The Sicilian-born singer was famous for duets with Maria Callas, and was considered one of the best singers in the world in the 1960s and '70s.
