Finkel was a 50-year veteran of the Yiddish theatre whose career received a shot in the arm in his early 70s when he became a regular on CBS' "Picket Fences" in 1992. In 2000 he landed a role on the series "Boston Public."
After 35 years in the Yiddish theatres of the Lower East Side, Finkel landed a small part in the national touring company of Fiddler on the Roof (1965), eventually making his Broadway debut in the role of Tevye the milkman in a revival of the classic musical.
Finkel later stepped into the role of Mr. Mushnik in the Off-Broadway musical Little Shop of Horrors. His work as Sam in the New York Shakespeare Festival revival of the Yiddish classic Cafe Crown earned him an Obie Award and a Drama Desk nomination.
