Farewell to actor Don Porter, who starred in over 200 plays in NY and across the country. Best known for playing Sally Field's father on TV's "Gidget," Porter appeared on Broadway in Plaza Suite (1969), Any Wednesday and a revival of The Front Page. As reported by the NY Post, Porter, 84, began acting in Portland, OR, after serving in WWII. In 1966 he succeeded fellow TV-dad, Robert Young, in the touring company of Generation, which starred Henry Fonda on Broadway.
Porter's films include The Candidate, Mame and Gidget Goes To Rome.
