The Ronald Harwoos play El Vestidor (The Dresser), directed by Miguel Cavia, was one of Argentina's must-see shows last season, and will run until mid-April. Plans include a tour across the country and a trip to Spain by year's end.
The play, whose film version was directed by Peter Yates and interpreted by Albert Finney and Tom Courtney, tells the story of an old Shakespearean actor who's afraid of forgetting his lines and fights for keeping his memory intact. The actor, portrayed in this staging by veteran actor Federico Luppi, depends on the loyalty and support of his dresser, portrayed by Julio Chavez, who helps him from falling into the cavern of fear and self-doubt.
Julio Chavez was awarded Best Actor in 1997 for this role. Federico Luppi was also nominated, and actor Jorge Ochoa received excellent reviews for his work. The cast also includes Monica Galan, Elvira Onetto, and Nancy Duplaa, a young actress coming from the TV background.
