The 7 PM concert in the famed hall is titled 88 Keys for Skitch and will pay tribute to the late Skitch Henderson, who founded the Pops. Liza Minnelli will be a special guest for the evening, which will also include performances by the Jersey Boys cast, Chu-Fang Huang, Kid Rock, Bob Lappin, Darlene Love, Paolo Nutini, George Wein, Gisele Jackson, MelSoulTree, Elizabeth Withers, John Giordano, Michael Keller and Ron Melrose.
Marvin Hamlisch will conduct the Pops orchestra.
Elaine Stritch, who recently played a second extended engagement at the Café Carlyle, triumphed with her one-woman Broadway show Elaine Stritch at Liberty. That musical evening traced Stritch's career, which includes roles in Company, The Little Foxes, Bus Stop, A Delicate Balance, Sail Away and Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? The show received a Tony Award for Best Special Theatrical Event as well as two Drama Desk Awards — Outstanding Solo Performance for Stritch and Outstanding Book of a Musical for Stritch and John Lahr. George C. Wolfe directed the Broadway run. The actress also received an Emmy Award for the television broadcast of At Liberty.
Liza Minnelli, an Oscar winner for her performance in "Cabaret," was last on Broadway in a tribute to her late father entitled Minnelli on Minnelli; she also returned to New York City's Beacon Theatre with her acclaimed concert Liza's Back! In addition to her Tonys for Flora, the Red Menace and The Act, Minnelli was awarded a special Tony in 1974 for "adding lustre to the Broadway season." Her film credits include "The Sterile Cuckoo," "Arthur," "New York, New York" and "Stepping Out." The singer is also a Golden Globe and Emmy Award-winning actress. Her recent album, "Liza's Back!," is available on the J Records label, and "The Best of Liza Minnelli" was released on the Columbia/Legacy label. "Liza with a 'Z'" was also just released on CD and DVD.
