News Elba Is New Hire for NBC's "The Office" Stage and screen actor Idris Elba will join the cast of NBC's hit comedy "The Office" later this season.

The Scranton, PA-set comedy has cast Elba as a new hire at the Dunder Mifflin paper supply company who will give regional manager Michael Scott (Steve Carell) a run for his money. Variety reports that Elba has signed to film six episodes, which will air later this season.

Elba's stage appearances include This Is How It Goes at the Donmar, Aunt Dan and Lemon Off-Broadway, and Sir Peter Hall's New York production of Troilus and Cressida. His numerous film credits include "The Wire," "Rocknrolla," "American Gangster," "This Christmas" and "Absolutely Fabulous."

"Office" star Melora Hardin is currently playing a limited engagement as Roxie Hart in Broadway's Chicago.
