Classic Arts News Elvis Costello-Allen Toussaint Disc Debuts on Jazz Chart A new collaboration between genre-hopping pop star Elvis Costello and New Orleans pianist Allen Toussaint debuted on the Billboard jazz chart this week at number two.
The album, The River in Reverse, includes older songs by Toussaint and newly written tunes by both artists. Costello wrote the title track for a Hurricane Katrina benefit last fall.

Michael Bubl_'s It's Time remained at number one in its 70th week on the chart.

Other new recordings on the chart included guitarist and singer Katie Melua's Piece by Piece at number three, veteran vocalist Diane Schuur's Live in London at number eight, and The House That Trane Built, a compilation of Impulse recordings, at number 16. Trio Beyond: Saudades, a new disc from drummer Jack DeJohnette, keyboardist Larry Golding and guitarist John Scofield, made its first appearance at number 15.

On the contemporary-jazz chart, The Best of Will Downing: The Millennium Collection, a new compilation from the singer, debuted at number one, dethroning Herbie Hancock's Possibilities, which fell to number three. Saxophonist Marion Meadows's Dressed to Chill moved from number five to number two in its second week on the chart.
