Legendary Pictures is behind the epic film about good and evil that has a screenplay by Ryan Condal, who penned the most recent treatment. Deadline reports that budgetary issues have prompted studio executives to push back the start of filming from January 2012 to May or later.

The large-scale visual effects were cited as inflating the film's budget, which prompted the delay. Alex Proyas will direct.

Walker recently finished filming "Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter." In "Paradise Lost" he will star as archangel Michael opposite Cooper as Lucifer; the film is inspired by John Milton's poem.
