Irish MacIntyre's one-man play The Gallant John-Joe premiered at 2002's Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The show focuses on a man at odds with his daughter, his country and himself. A prominent Irish actor, Hickey — who originated the title role — has performed continuously at Dublin's Abbey Theatre, generating lead roles in new Irish dramas by many Irish playwrights including Brian Friel, Tom Murphy, Marina Carr, Frank McGuinness, and MacIntyre. His film credits include: "Possession," "My Left Foot," and "Circle of Friends."
Gallant John-Joe reteams Hickey with MacIntyre on the New York stage where he performed in the 1998 Abbey Theatre production of the scribe's The Great Hunger.
The non-profit Irish Arts Center, founded in 1972, provides a complete Irish cultural experience in one venue. Patrons can take in an evening of contemporary plays while musical classes are in session and Irish art works display in the lobby gallery.
