News Evergreen Musical Reading to Be Presented By Prospect Theater Company; Casting Announced Evergreen: A New Holiday Musical will get a staged concert reading presented by and benefiting Prospect Theater Company Dec. 20 at 7 PM at Church of St. Paul and St. Andrew.

Peter Mills wrote the score and co-wrote the book with Cara Reichel for the children's adventure tale, which premiered at Prospect in 2009.

Reichel will direct a cast that includes Anita Vasan as Maya, Lucy Sorlucco as Yamma and Whitney Kam Lee as Joshi. The youth ensemble will feature Jake Bazel, Kate Bralower, Kayla Caban, Francesca Chaney, Ashley Chu, Audrey Chu, Olivia Coe, Bridget Crisonino, Sabrina Fernandez, Gabriella Green, Sammy Grob, Kelly Hooper, Lilli Jacobs, Gabrielle-Marie Kaufman, Rachel Khutorsky, Fiona McSweeney-Glynn, Ah-Niyah Neal, Livi Perrone, Ari Shaps and Lina Silver. Additional casting will be announced shortly.


Dax Valdes will contribute additional staging. Mills and Daniel Feyer will provide music direction and orchestrations.

According to Prospect, "Every winter, Maya listens to her grandmother’s stories of a world that used to be: filled with snow and trees. But from her desert homeland it’s hard to believe in these memories. So, headstrong Maya embarks on a fantastic adventure to find the Earth’s last living evergreens and bring back proof."

Mills, the winner of the 2010 Kleban Prize for lyrics, has written music and lyrics for Golden Boy of the Blue Ridge, Honor, The Rockae, Iron Curtain, The Pursuit of Persephone, Lonely Rhymes, The Alchemists, Illyria and The Taxi Cabaret. He also wrote The Flood with Reichel and Marco Polo with composer Deborah Abramson. In addition to Evergreen and The Flood, Reichel co-wrote the book for The Pursuit of Persephone.
