Tony Awards attendees, like any Broadway audience, receive a commemorative Playbill featuring ceremony highlights, headshots of participating artists and feature articles. Over 2,000 pages from four decades of these Tony Awards Playbills are available to view in the Vault.
The Vault's earliest archived Tony Playbill is from the 1967 ceremony, which featured Mary Martin and Robert Preston as co-hosts, a presentation from New York City mayor John V. Lindsay, and an opening performance of "Wilkommen" by Joel Grey and the original Broadway cast of Cabaret.
The Playbill from the 65th Annual Tony Awards features Neil Patrick Harris in his second stint as host (he returns for his fourth time this year), nominee production photos, and hand-drawn sketches from Tony-nominated costume designers of shows like Anything Goes and Priscilla Queen of the Desert.
