Eli Kabillio directed the documentary that traces the history of the musical penned by composer Harvey Schmidt and lyricist and book writer Tom Jones. The Fantasticks was originally written for a summer theatre at Barnard College and opened Off-Broadway in May 1960 at the Sullivan Street Playhouse.

"Try to Remember" promises historical footage from the musical, and interviews with original cast members Jerry Orbach, Rita Gardner, as well as F. Murray Abraham, Schmidt and Jones, and producer Lore Noto. Various members of the theatre community also weigh in on the magic of the tender musical love story.

The documentary will re-air on Ovation June 15 at 9 PM/ET, as well as June 16 at 12 AM/ET and June 19 at 3 PM/ET. Check local listings.

The Fantasticks is the world's longest-running musical, having played a record-breaking run of more than 17,000 performances in Greenwich Village. The Fantasticks originally opened at the Sullivan Street Playhouse in May 1960 and closed Jan. 13, 2002. Word Baker directed the original Off-Broadway company.

The Off-Broadway revival began performances at the Snapple Theater Center's Jerry Orbach Theater Aug. 16, 2006, where it continues to run. A new London revival opens June 9 at the Duchess Theatre. Producers bill the musical as "a captivating and simple love story about a boy, a girl, two fathers and a wall. The audience uses its imagination to follow El Gallo as he creates a world of moonlight and magic, and then pain and disillusionment, until the boy and girl find their way back to one other." Songs from the popular musical include "Try to Remember," "They Were You," "Much More," "Soon It's Gonna Rain" and "I Can See It."
