News Farrell, Gleeson, Fiennes and More to Star in Martin McDonagh Film Academy Award winner Martin McDonagh, most recently represented on Broadway with his Tony-nominated play The Lieutenant of Inishmore, will make his feature-film directorial debut with "In Bruges."

The suspense thriller, produced by Focus Features and Film4, will begin shooting in Bruges, Belgium, in February. The motion picture will feature a cast headed by Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson, Clémence Poésy, Jérémie Renier and two-time Academy Award nominee Ralph Fiennes. "In Bruges," according to press notes, is "the darkly comedic tale of the fates of hit men Ray and Ken (Farrell and Gleeson, respectively). After a difficult job in London, the team is ordered by their boss Harry (Fiennes) to cool their heels in Bruges. Very much out of their comfort zones, the men find themselves drawn into increasingly dangerous entanglements with locals, tourists, and a film shoot. Soon, their perspectives on life and death are violently skewed."

In a statement Focus Features CEO James Schamus said, "Martin has written a screenplay that is both killingly funny and dramatically affecting, and this fine troupe of actors from all over the world will interact marvelously under his direction. We’re also very grateful for the extensive cooperation and support that Bruges is offering the production."

Four Martin McDonagh plays — The Lieutenant of Inishmore, The Pillowman, The Lonesome West and The Beauty Queen of Leenane — have played Broadway. All four were Tony-nominated for Best Play. McDonagh also wrote and directed "Six Shooter," which earned him an Academy Award for Best Live-Action Short Film.
