Academy Award-winning actress Faye Dunaway will play the role of Maria Callas in the National Tour of Master Class. Rehearsals are set to begin on September 17 in New York and will run for an eight week engagement at Boston's Wilbur Theatre starting October 29. Other cities are currently being booked. A film version of Terrance McNally's Tony Award-winning play, which earned Zoe Caldwell a Tony Award, may be coming to a theater near you. Dunaway has reportedly signed on to play the diva in the film project. Details of who will direct and when filming will start have yet to be established, but it is likely to be during the summer of 1998.
Dunaway whose first and last major stage role was in Broadway's A Man for All Seasons, will also be spotlighted in Harold Pinters' new play Ashes to Ashes . Pinter will direct the production himself and is scheduled to be housed at the Laura Pels Theater, in January '98. Ashes to Ashes will preview in London's Royal Court Theatre Upstairs on September 7, '96.
