News Film Version of Hamlet, Starring Maxine Peake in Title Role, Will Be Released in 200 U.K. Cinemas A film version of Manchester's Royal Exchange Theatre production of Hamlet, which completed its run Oct. 25, has been made, and is set to open in approximately 200 cinemas in the U.K. in March 2015. It featured Maxine Peake in the title role.

The stage production was directed by Sarah Frankcom, artistic director of the Royal Exchange; the film version is directed by Margaret Williams and produced by Anne Beresford of MJW PRODUCTIONS LTD. and Debbie Gray of Genesius Pictures. This is the team behind a number of projects including the film version of Britten’s opera Peter Grimes on Aldeburgh Beach.

Williams has worked regularly in stage-to-screen transfers, including a film version of the Royal Opera House's Written on Skin that recently won the Gramophone Contemporary Award and the Diapason d’or.
