Based on the novel of the same name by Jefferson Young, A Good Man will play three performances only at the Snapple Theatre: Nov. 3 at 4 PM and Nov. 4 at 1 PM and 4 PM. The musical features music by Ray Leslee
Book and lyrics by Philip S. Goodman.

Directed by Jerry Dixon with musical direction by Jason Michael Webb, the cast also features Cheryl Alexander (Dreamgirls), Jeremy Gumbs (The Scottsboro Boys), John Jellison (Memphis), Anastacia McClesky (Hair), Raun Ruffin (The Civil War), Bob Stillman (Grey Gardens) and Kenneth Robinson.

Here's how the show is billed: "Rural Mississippi just after World War II is a changing place where blacks have been leaving and going north in droves. Not 'Prince' Albert – he likes it here. A poor sharecropper, but a strong man and a gifted farmer, he is proud of his leadership and standing. And when he finds out that his wife is pregnant, he decides to fulfill a dream – to fix up and put fresh white paint on his shabby little tenant house. That simple wish turns his world upside down. Many people, not only the whites, don't want him to do it. Passions erupt, and resentment and fear gather like a dark summer storm, shattering family and community."

The Amas Musical Theatre Lab is a free development series for writers, lyricists and composers to mount staged readings of their new musicals.
