News Free Reading of Russell's Last Smoker in America Postponed The York Theatre Company's free reading of Bill Russell and Peter Melnick's new musical The Last Smoker in America, which was scheduled for July 10, has been temporarily postponed.

Scheduling conflicts are to blame for the postponement of the reading, which will be rescheduled for another date. The Last Smoker in America features book and lyrics by Bill Russell and music by Peter Melnick. Sheryl Kaller will direct the reading with musical direction by Fred Lassen. The musical concerns a "highly dysfunctional family in the near future dealing with addiction, betrayal and a gun."

Bill Russell, who wrote the book and lyrics for Side Show, also penned the book and lyrics for Off-Broadway's Elegies for Angels, Punks and Raging Queens and Pageant. His other book/lyric credits include Lucky Duck, Kept, Fourtune, The Texas Chainsaw Musical and Family Style.

The York Theatre Company presents its shows at the Theatre at Saint Peter's Church, located in Manhattan at 54th Street just east of Lexington Avenue.
