News   Free Reading of Smart's Hand, Foot, Arm and Face Offered March 21

The free Out Loud reading series — presented by the Underwood Theater — continues March 21 with Hand, Foot, Arm and Face.

Directed by Brian Mertes, Mat Smart's play will be offered at 7 PM at the Ars Nova Theater. The reading will feature the talents of Betsy Aidem, Amir Arison, Pascale Armand, Marin Ireland and Owiso Odera. Hand, Foot, Arm and Face, according to production notes, is set in November 2001 when "two young, impulsive lovers — an Iraqi man and an American woman — run away together to the obscurity of southern Indiana to start anew, only to quickly realize that escaping the past involves a lot more than a change of location."

Mat Smart's plays include The Hopper Collection, The Debate Over Courtney O'Connell of Columbus, Nebraska, Shoes, Chopin's Preludes and The Bebop Heard in Okinawa. He is currently at work on Telescopes and the rock musical Keep Ishmael, which features music by Ethan Deppe.

Although the reading is free, reservations are required by calling (212) 977- 1700. All Out Loud readings are held at the Ars Nova Theater, located at 511 West 54th Street, west of Tenth Avenue.
