Laurence Boswell's production, which won a U.K. Theatre Award for its original run in 2012 at Bath's Ustinov Studio, will see Edward Bennett and Flora Montgomery reprise their roles as Leo Irving and Sabrina Daldry, respectively. They are newly joined by Sarah Woodward as Annie, with Jason Hughes as Dr Givings, Natalie Casey as Catherine Givings, Madeline Appiah as Elizabeth and Owen Oakeshott as Mr Daldry. The play, set in late 19th Century New York State, revolves around Dr. Givings, who has been working on his own strange electrical device. His aim is to treat female hysteria, but his first patient emerges from her first session glowing and keen to return.
The production is designed by Simon Kenny, with lighting by Ben Ormerod and sound by Fergus O'Hare. It is produced at the St James Theatre by Peter Huntley and Just for Laughs Theatricals in association with Theatre Royal Bath Productions.
