News Full Casting Announced for The Sound of Music at London's Open Air Theatre Full casting has been announced for the new production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's The Sound of Music at London's Open Air Theatre, Regent's Park, which will begin performances July 25 prior to an official opening Aug. 5, for a run through Sept. 7.

Charlotte Wakefield, currently playing Sophie in Mamma Mia! and Olivier-nominated for starring as Wendla in the London premiere of Spring Awakening, will star as Maria, opposite Michael Xavier, Olivier-nominated for starring in Love Story, as Captain von Trapp.

Also in featured roles are Faye Brookes as Liesl, Caroline Keiff as Elsa Schrader, Helen Hobson as Mother Abbess and Joshua Tonks as Rolf.

The rest of the company comprises Kimberley Blake, Helen Colby, Samuel Edwards, Tim Frances, Victoria Hinde, Christopher Hunt, Michael Matus, Harry Morrison, Gemma Page, Laura Pick, Stuart Price, Anna Simmons, Chloe Taylor and Helen Walsh.

It is directed by Rachel Kavanaugh, former artistic director of Birmingham Rep and previously an Open Air Theatre regular. It is choreographed by Alistair David and designed by Peter McKintosh.
