Geoff Hoyle, who created the role of Zazu in Julie Taymor's The Lion King, will bring his Feast of Fools to La Jolla Playhouse June 11-July 14. Richard Seyd directs. The world premiere of Feast of Fools opens June 16. Before his stint at The Lion King, Hoyle toiled for 25 years in the New Vaudeville, clowning with Bill Irwin in the Pickle Family Circus and with the Cirque du Soleil. While his last solo show, The First Hundred Years, was a history of vaudevillian stage and television, Feast of Fools (formerly entitled Hoyle in One) looks at the latest breed of stage clown, using mime, acrobatics and juggling.
Joining Hoyle on stage will be composer Gina Leishman, who last performed with him in 1990's Don Quixote de La Jolla. She has also worked with the Flying Karamazov Brothers and recently premiered her first opera, Burning Dreams, in San Diego.
Following its run at La Jolla Playhouse, Feast of Fools will travel to the Edinburgh Festival and then on to London.
Tickets are $19-$49. La Jolla Playhouse is located on the corner of La Jolla Village Drive and Torrey Pines Road. For tickets, call (858) 550-1010. La Jolla Playhouse is on the web at http://www.lajollaplayhouse.com.
