Pop star Gina G has mysteriously quit Grease-the Arena Spectacular a week after commencing rehersals. She was to play Rizzo, replacing Danni Minogue for the second leg of the succesful stadium tour. Publicists for the show announced that she needed to return to her home-base London to meet a sudden recording engagement. The announcement she would do the role several weeks ago was trumpeted as a 'casting coup'. Danni Minogue has agreed to do the return Brisbane season and Kelly Abbey will do Melbourne and Sydney. Abbey won rave notices last year for her performance in Sweet Charity. She had been working on the production as Dance Captain, and went on twice last week in Brisbane when Danni Minogue took ill.
Grease-the Arena Spectacular has taken more than $25,000,000 (Australian) at the Box Office,far surpassing expectations of all involved. The show also stars Craig McLachlan(Danny),Anthony Warlow (Teen Angel) and Jane Scali (Sandy).
