PlayBlog Godspell Hopefuls Prepare for Broadway Open Call (Video) Aspiring actors from all over the country made their way to The Actors Chapel in midtown Manhattan when Telsey + Company, the casting office for the first Broadway revival of Godspell, held an all-day open call July 7.

The revival of the Stephen Schwartz rock musical, set to begin performances Oct. 13 at the Circle in the Square Theatre, was on the lookout for fresh talent and began their open call at 10 AM. Lines wrapped around the entire New York City block and the audition monitors were in for more than they expected—at the very beginning of the day monitors ran out of the 500 prepared and printed sign-up forms and rushed to print a second batch.

Auditionees ages 16-30 were asked to prepare 16 bars of a pop song or contemporary musical theatre song, to be sung a capella, and have a photo and resume stapled together. However, songs were soon cut down to a mere eight bars since Telsey + Company planned to see each and every person in line.

Originally scheduled to run until 5 PM, the audition went later than expected and was moved across the street to the Davenport Studio to accommodate the church. Hopefuls were still lined up a bit after 6:30 PM, but remained optimistic and were determined to sing.
