News Guthrie Presents Baryshnikov in Forbidden Christmas May 11-23 Forbidden Christmas or the Doctor and the Patient — starring Mikhail Baryshnikov — begins performances May 11 at the Guthrie Theater.

Baryshnikov, who played a major role in the final season of HBO's "Sex and the City," will be joined on stage by Jon DeVries, Luis Perez, Pilar Witherspoon, and Yvonne Woods. Rezo Gabriadze's production will play a limited engagement at the Guthrie's Theater Lab through May 23 prior to a limited tour throughout the country. The work concerns a mentally ill man who thinks he is an automobile. Forbidden Christmas features text, direction, design and sound collage by Gabriadze, adapted from one of his short stories. The text was translated from Russian into English by Julia Smeliansky and Ryan McKittrick.

Best known for his work as a dancer, Mikhail Baryshnikov's Broadway credits include Awakening, Push Comes to Shove and Metamorphosis. He was nominated for a 1989 Tony Award for his work in the latter.
