News Hairspray's Winokur to Star in Film for New Line Tony Award winner Marissa Jaret Winokur, who is currently reprising her role as Tracy Turnblad in the Los Angeles premiere of Hairspray, will executive produce and star in a new film for New Line Cinema.

Liz Smith reports that Winokur will portray the romantic lead in the upcoming film "Always a Bridesmaid." Winokur will also record a CD of children's tunes for New Line. The young actress told the gossip maven, "I feel like the Judy Garland of New Line Cinema!"

Nina Colman wrote the script for "Always a Bridesmaid," which the internet movie database describes thusly: "A sassy, eccentric East Village woman segues from perennial bridesmaid to potential bride when she hooks up with an unlikely love, a blueblood lawyer from a prominent Connecticut family."

Marissa Jaret Winokur won the 2003 Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical for her performance as Tracy Turnblad in Hairspray. She also appeared on Broadway in the hit revival of Grease! as well as the L.A. Reprise production of Hair. Winokur portrayed Janine in the Oscar-winning film “American Beauty" and has also been seen in “Teaching Mrs. Tingle,” “Never Been Kissed,” “Scary Movie,” “Dharma & Greg,” “Moesha,” “Just Shoot Me,” “Boston Public,” “The Ellen Show,” “Felicity,” “Nikki,” “Steve Harvey,” “Get Real” and “Curb: Your Enthusiasm.”

The Los Angeles run of Hairspray — at the Pantages Theatre — runs through Sept. 5.
