Hamilton Cast Member Gives John Mayer Hit a Slick, Hip-Hop Dance Make-Over (Video) | Playbill

News Hamilton Cast Member Gives John Mayer Hit a Slick, Hip-Hop Dance Make-Over (Video) Jon Rua is an ensemble member and understudy in Broadway's Hamilton, but he is also a choreographer who was a finalist for the Capezio A.C.E. Awards for Choreographic Excellence. In this video choreographed, directed and produced by Rua, he finds inspiration for his style of urban movement in an unlikely tune — "No Such Thing," the smooth-rocking debut single from heartthrob John Mayer.

Rua enlisted the help of dancers Pierce Buttons Cady-Penny, Mayu Furukawa, Toko Kobayashi and Brianna Mercado to bring his steps to the stage. The video was shot by Mark Cruz.

Rua's YouTube channel features a wide selection of videos, including his choreography work with jam band Phish and Nick Blaemire & The Hustle. Look for performance clips from Hands on a Hardbody, Kung Fu and of course, Hamilton.

Watch as Rua imagines what might have happened if West Side Story's Sharks and Jets encountered each other to the tune of Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams' chart-topping hit "Blurred Lines."
