The Hamilton Original Broadway Cast Recording surpassed the total sales of Jersey Boys' cast album the week of January 25, making it the fifth-highest-selling cast album since Nielsen Music began collecting album sales information in 1991. As of February 8, the Lin-Manuel Miranda musical has sold 1.46 million albums to Jersey Boys' 1.445 million, according to Billboard.
Leading in the first four slots on the Nielsen list are the original Broadway cast album of Les Misérables with 1.661 million in sales, Mamma Mia's original London cast album with 1.717 million, Wicked's original Broadway cast album with 2.728 million, and The Phantom of the Opera's original London cast highlights album with 4.972 million.
Since opening on Broadway in August 2015, Hamilton has become one of Broadway's hardest-to-get tickets and is consistently Broadway's highest-grossing production each week. Subsequent productions have since opened in Chicago and London, as well as two simultaneous North American tours.
