Much like Christopher Durang, who took a lengthy sabbatical from playwriting a few years ago to hone a cabaret act, playwright-actor Harvey Fierstein has been spending the last few years appearing on movies and TV and touring with his one-man show, "This Is Not Going To Be Pretty."

Fierstein's next engagement -- in tandem with Gay Pride Month -- will be at the intimate New York cabaret club, Eighty-Eight's. The gravel-voiced performer will do five shows, June 6, 13, 15, 20 & 27.

The Eighty-Eight's shows will have more of a social-political slant than Pretty, though Fierstein's still expected to sing. Musical numbers will likely include a couple of songs penned by Ann Hampton Callaway, plus "I Am What I Am" from the Fierstein/Jerry Herman musical La Cage aux Folles, and songs from the film version of Torch Song Trilogy.

Fierstein also "cruises" the audience, jokes about gay issues, sings ditties and reenacts passages from his own plays and those by Robert Patrick.

For reservations and information on Harvey Fierstein's show at Eighty Eight's, 228 West 10th St., call (212) 924-0088.
