Variety reports that HBO has won the rights to broadcast the event, which will be attended by both President-elect Obama and Vice President-elect Joseph Biden. The ceremony, which is free and open to the public, will be available free-of-charge not only to HBO subscribers but to anyone whose cable or satellite services carry the channel. Brent Colburn, a spokesperson for Obama's inaugural committee, told the industry paper that plans are also underway to make the 90-minute broadcast available "beyond HBO." A list of performers has yet to be announced.
A children's inaugural event is also scheduled for Jan. 19. No broadcast information has been announced for that ceremony.
