Hear The Von Trapp Grandchildren Explore New Sound of Music as Indie Rock Band | Playbill

News Hear The Von Trapp Grandchildren Explore New Sound of Music as Indie Rock Band Sofia, Melanie, Amanda and August von Trapp, who herald from the famed singing family that inspired the Broadway musical The Sound of Music, are set to release their first EP of original music this spring, according to Rolling Stone.

The Portland, OR based indie rock band was formed by the grandchildren of Werner von Trapp. The singers, who have been performing together since their childhood, have been touring together for the past 14 years.

The first EP, titled "Dancing in Gold," will be released April 14. Two additional EPs are planned for release over the next two years.

"The style is something of a mix of different music genres. We anchored it in the playful satisfaction of 1960's pop-Americana, yet drifted on that line into the regions of surf, Louisiana big band and most importantly, a special sound of our own," the group told Rolling Stone.
