Two regional theatres, Bailiwick Repertory in Chicago and Speakeasy Stage Company in Boston, are mounting productions of the innovative 1994 Michael John LaChiusa musical, Hello Again.
Hello Again, an adaptation of Schnitzler's La Ronde, follows the spark of passion as it goes from the mysterious streetwalker Leocadia, through a sailor, a student, a housewife, a senator, et al., until it returns to Leocadia.
All music, lyrics and book are by LaChiusa (The Petrified Prince, Chronicle of a Death Foretold.
These are the first professional revivals of Hello Again since the original production at New York's Lincoln Center.
In addition to LaChiusa's highly idiosyncratic musical style and unconventional round-robin structure, the show leaps from one time period to another unexpectedly. Speakeasy's production, directed by Paul Daigneault, is running through Feb. 17. For information, call (617) 728-1411.
Bailiwick's version, staged by Elizabeth A. Lucas, runs Feb. 9 to March 24. The cast includes Candace L. Johnson, David DeVore, Matt Shea and George Keating. For tickets and information call 312 883-1090.
