Tony nominee Maurice Hines (Hot Feet, Sophisticated Ladies) will choreograph the world premiere of the showbiz musical Cool Papa's Party, which begins performances at Virginia's MetroStage Feb. 5.

Featuring book and lyrics by Thomas W. Jones II and an original score by William Knowles, Cool Papa's Party will run through March 15. Book writer and lyricist Jones will direct the premiere.

The cast features Benjamin Horen, William Hubbard, Jahi Kearse, Anthony Manough, Gia Mora, Roz White and Lori Williams.

Cool Papa's Party, according to press notes, is a "20th century musical odyssey through the eyes of the 'last great American hipster.' It is to Sammy Davis, Jr. and Nat King Cole what Dreamgirls was to the Supremes, Barry Gordy and Motown. Mr. Cool Papa's life stands on the world stage as a testament to the traveler, the survivor, the conqueror. And what a life defined by artistry, underscored by excellence and distinguished always by style."

Cool Papa's Party has designs by Carl Gudenius (set design), Kristina Lucka (costume design), Herrick Goldman (lighting design) and Steve Baena (sound engineer).
