The staging—directed by Julianne Boyd and headlined by Leslie Denniston (Phyllis), Jeff McCarthy (Ben), Kim Crosby (Sally), Lara Teeter (Buddy) as the two central couples—has become the biggest hit in Barrington history. It has also begun to attract the attention of New York producers and artists after receiving a raft of rave reviews. The New York Times—which often covers shows at the nearby Williamstown Theatre Festival, but rarely stops at the Barrington—is expected to review the show, and Sondheim himself may pay a visit.

The staging began on June 23. A spokesman said it was impossible to extend the show further, due to the July 21 opening of Barrington's next show, The Importance of Being Earnest.

The cast also features Marni Nixon (Heidi), Gordon Stanley (Dimitri), Donna McKechnie (Carlotta), Natalie Mosco (Emily), Diane Houghton (Hattie), David Young (Theodore), Joy Franz (Solange), Diane J. Findlay (Stella), Marvin Einhorn (Sam), Eric Ulloa (Young Ben), John Patrick (Young Buddy), Nili Bassman (Young Phyllis) and Elise Molinelli (Young Sally) with Jason Johnson, Rose O’Hara, Carissa Lopez, Michelle Dyer, Steven Parmenter and Bettina Tyler-Lewis.

The creative team comprises Michael Anania (set design), Alejo Vietti (costume design), Scott Pinkney and D. Benjamin Courtney (lighting design) and Randy Hansen (sound design). Musical direction is by Darren Cohen.

The musical premiered at Broadway's Winter Garden Theatre in April 1971 with a score that boasts such tunes as "Beautiful Girls," "Broadway Baby," "In Buddy's Eyes," "I'm Still Here," "Could I Leave You?," "Losing My Mind" and "Who's That Woman?" Among the original cast were Dick Latessa, Alexis Smith, Yvonne De Carlo, John McMartin, Gene Nelson and Dorothy Collins. The Barrington Stage Company is located within the Consolati Performing Arts Center at 491 Berkshire School Road. The box office can be reached by calling (413) 528-8888.
