News   Hoffman and Marachek Are Odd Couple at Walnut Street, After Florida Run

Broadway veterans Avi Hoffman and Gary Marachek are Felix and Oscar in Neil Simon's The Odd Couple for Philadelphia's Walnut Street Theatre March 11-April 27.

Opening is March 19. The staging, directed by Bill Van Horn, is presented in conjunction with South Florida's New Vista Theatre Company, which recently staged the comedy (to March 2) about the sloppy sportswriter Oscar Madison and the fussy neat-freak CBS newswriter Felix Ungar.

Hoffman is artistic director of the Boca Raton-based New Vista. He's best known for his one-man shows Too Jewish? and Too Jewish, Too! Marachek's New York credits include Jekyll & Hyde, City of Angels, My Fair Lady, Me and My Girl, La Cage aux Folles, Rumors, Anything Goes, Man of La Mancha and The Phantom of the Opera.

This is the first collaboration between Walnut Street Theatre and Florida's New Vista, now in its second season. Bernard Havard, WST president and producing artistic director, met Hoffman 20 years ago when his touring production of The Golden Land played at the WST.

"I am very excited to be working with Avi Hoffman again and The New Vista Theatre Company," Havard stated. "Recently I was looking for a new partnership because I believe wholeheartedly that theatres that co-produce stand to gain much, not only economically but artistically, which is most important." The cast also includes Harry Philibosian as Speed, Jeffrey Coon as Vinnie, David Volin as Roy, Michael Serratore as Murray, Madi Distefano as Gwendolyn Pigeon and Leah Walton as Cecily Pigeon.

The design team includes set designer Ian T. Almeida, lighting designer Lance Blank, costume designer Paula Villar and sound designer Traci Almeida.
