Classic Arts News Houston Grand Opera Premieres Adamo's Lysistrata, or the Nude Goddess Lysistrata, or the Nude Goddess, a new opera by Mark Adamo, gets its world premiere tonight at Houston Grand Opera.
Performances of Lysistrata, which is directed by Michael Kahn, run through March 19.

The opera is HGO's 33rd world premiere. Adamo, whose Little Women premiered with the company in 1998, composed the opera and wrote the libretto. Lysistrata stars Emily Pulley in the title role, and also features Chad Shelton, Myrna Paris, Victoria Livengood, and Joshua Winograde.

Based on the play by Aristophanes, Lysistrata tells the story of the women of Athens and Sparta, who stop the war between their nations by refusing to have sex with their men until the fighting stops.

This is the second world premiere produced b Houston Grand Opera this season. Salsipuedes, a Tale of Love, War, and Anchovies premiered last October.
