Classic Arts News Houston Symphony to Celebrate Hispanic Heritage with Free Concert Sept. 9 In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, the Houston Symphony will offer its annual free concert, Chevron Fiesta Sinf‹nica Familiar, on September 9 with the Brasil Guitar Duo, a winner of the 2006 Concert Artist Guild International Competition.
Duo members Douglas Lora and Joê£o Luiz met in Sê£o Paulo and have been performing together for over a decade. Their repertoire covers classical music and such Brazilian styles as samba, maxixe, choro and baiê£o.

Lora recently finished his masters degree at the University of Miami as a student of Dr. Rene Gonzalez, and Luiz is a member of the guitar quartet Quaternaglia.

The HSO's former associate conductor, Carlos Miguel Prieto, leads the orchestra in Castelnuovo-Tedesco's Concerto for Two Guitars (1962) and other works by Falla, Prado and Turina.
