Busy producer Elizabeth Ireland McCann not only produced The Smell of the Kill and The Goat, or Who Is Sylvia? this spring on Broadway, she was a producer of the 2002 Tony Awards, the annual tradition that draws both bricks and bouquets from viewers, press and industry people. For Playbill On-Line's June 11- 17 Brief Encounter interview with McCann, she told Robert Simonson, "Obviously, there are aspects of the broadcast that did not come out as well as we hoped they would. How to improve them for next year is the next problem we have to address." She also speaks about her fearless approach to the theatre press, the marketing campaign for The Goat and the constraints involved in delivering the Tony Awards for TV.
