PlayBlog Hugh Sheridan Salutes Anthony Newley (Video) Footage of Australian star Hugh Sheridan's Newley Discovered, a salute to the work of the late British songwriter/performer Anthony Newley, has been released. Sheridan will bring the show to New York's Snapple Theatre Oct. 7 in a special benefit performance for Broadway Cares.


Sheridan is seen performing many of Newley's classic songs, including "What Kind of Fool Am I?," "The Candy Man" and "Pure Imagination." Newley co-wrote (with Leslie Bricusse) and starred in the London and Broadway productions of Stop the World – I Want to Get Off and The Roar of the Greasepaint – The Smell of the Crowd. The team also wrote the film musical "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory," among others.

Sheridan is known in Australia for his starring role on television's "Packed to the Rafters." His debut album, "Speak Love," was released in November 2009.
