News Humane Society of New York to Honor Broadway Photographer Martha Swope at Auction Martha Swope, the legendary photographer of New York theatre and dance, will be honored at a Benefit Photography Auction for the Humane Society of New York April 27 at the DVF Studio.

Proceeds from the auction will go to the Humane Society's veterinary clinic and the Vladimir Horowitz and Wanda Toscanini Horowitz Adoption Center, which help needy animals find free medical care and homes.

The auction, which will take place from 6-9 PM, will feature an exhibit of Swope's work, which contains "some of the most iconic images of the twentieth century including Baryshnikov, Jerome Robbins, Balanchine, Suzanne Farrell and Liza Minnelli," according to press notes.

Swope's photography will also be among the pieces auctioned. James Niven, the vice chairman of Sotheby's, will preside over the auction, which will also place photographs by Milton H. Greene, Annie Leibovitz, Gosta Peterson, Mary Ellen Mark, Deborah Turbeville, Sylvia Plachy, Gregory Colbert, Raymond Meier, Timothy Greenfield-Sanders, Hiro and Nick Brandt on the block.

The honorary chairs of the evening are Grace Coddington, Mikhail Baryshnikov and Adrien Brody. Cornelia Guest, the evening's chairman, said in a statement, "This will be a great night to honor our friend and supporter Martha Swope, while furthering the Humane Society of New York's important mission. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the auction will benefit the Society's essential work, which is more important now than ever before."
