The production has given film star Jake Gyllenhaal his (well-reviewed) American stage debut, playing an estranged, misfit uncle who bonds with his outsider niece while visiting his brother and sister-in-law. Tony Award nominee Enid Graham (Broadway's Honour, Fortune's Fool, Dinner at Eight, The Constant Wife, The Public Theater's recent King Lear) will take over the role of busy mother Fiona on Oct. 23.

The limited run, which was originally scheduled to run through Nov. 25 only, will take a 12-day break before resuming performances on Dec. 8 and play two additional weeks through Dec. 23.

Michael Longhurst directs a cast that currently includes Annie Funke as teen niece Anna, Michelle Gomez as mom Fiona, Gyllenhaal as Uncle Terry and Brían F. O'Byrne as academic father George.

The design team includes Beowulf Boritt (sets), Susan Hilferty (costumes), Natasha Katz (lights) and Obadiah Eaves (original music and sound).

If There Is I Haven't Found It Yet plays at the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre/Laura Pels Theatre (111 W. 46th Street). Here's how Roundabout bills the play: "If There Is I Haven't Found It Yet is an entertaining look at a regular family stuck somewhere between knowing what the problem is... and doing something about it. Fifteen-year-old Anna's weight makes her a natural target for bullies. When her mom transfers Anna to the school where she teaches in order to protect her daughter, it only makes things worse. Anna's environmentalist dad, determined to finish his new book and save the planet, is no help at all. Just as Anna gets suspended for retaliating with a head-butt, her estranged uncle Terry arrives unannounced. A heartbroken drifter with the mouth of a sailor, Terry reaches out to Anna in a way that no one ever has. Their unexpected friendship sends her parents' rocky marriage into a tailspin as the whole family wonders, what — or who — really needs saving?"
